NEW ZEALAND’S STUNNING, SUNNY MUSE

Nestled on the shores of Tasman Bay at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, Nelson is also known as the top of the south. It is also the geographical center of New Zealand, marked by a landmark on a hilltop near the center of the city. Climb up to point zero and be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the area—two massive bays surrounded by hills and mountains. An area of extraordinary beauty, the Nelson Tasman region is home to several film locations from the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Named after explorers Abel Tasman and Lord Horatio Nelson, the region is steeped in Māori history. But it’s also a vibrant urban hub where you’ll find boutiques, art galleries, alfresco dining, and hundreds of retail outlets. Take your time exploring the quaint heart of the city and its tree-lined streets. Climb the steps of the Christ Church Cathedral, which overlooks the city, and stroll along Wakefield Quay, Nelson’s picturesque waterfront. Discover native flora and fauna and rare species such as kiwi, tuatara and kakapo at the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary, a wildlife sanctuary near the city center.

Nelson is also the creative center of New Zealand. Home of the internationally acclaimed Hoglund Art Glass studio and more than 300 working artists—painters, sculptors, ceramic artists, potters, glass blowers, jewelers, and writers drawing inspiration from the spectacular surroundings.

Nelson is also an outdoor adventurer’s haven. Kayak sheltered coves, catamaran to remote beaches. Go hiking, biking, or even skydiving. Try horseback riding along endless stretches of gorgeous beaches. Nelson isn’t a place to visit, it’s a way to live.
